The Web site you’re presently on has some very cool things. I realize that statement might sound terribly commercial but I get to write about all sorts of poop on this blog, and well, this is what’s on my mind.
You see, Penelope and I are going to Seattle to see some of our closest—well, obviously not geographically closest—friends to help celebrate their son’s first birthday. In advance of our trip, we recently spent some time in a big discount store trying to find a gift for little Jonah Bear.
Two words: terribly frustrating.
These stores serve a respectable purpose—various cleaning supplies, paper products, and other such staples are cheap and plentiful there—but if you’re looking for something special, you’re fishing the wrong river.
We arrived home empty-handed, so while my wife and son took an afternoon nap, I turned to the Internet and found the perfect gift. In about two minutes. About two clicks from the cyberspace on which you’re cyber-standing.
Because my friends might read this post, and because I want this little gift to remain a surprise for the remainder of the week, I won’t reveal the specifics of my selection. Suffice it to say it’s a toy.

Being a mom is a life changing event that, while amazing, can sometimes leave us feeling less than put together. While you may not have time to get your make-up on or do anything other than a ponytail (and if I may confess, showers sometimes seemed to difficult to fit in at the beginning), there is no need to give up your fabulous bag - a small sign that you are still the stylish woman you were before baby (and I promise, you’ll feel like again soon)!

Timi & Leslie diapers bags are the perfect combination of super-stylish yet amazingly functional for the mom on the go. Each bag includes:
Easy to clean nylon lining
Bottle Thermos tote
Stroller Straps (most bags)
Changing Pag
“Feel Better” Zipper wristlet
5 elasticized inner pockets for easy organization
Dirty clothes bag
41″ Removable Shoulder Strap (most bags)
From leather to nylon to tapestry, there are over a dozen to choose from, and now on sale for up to 50% through September 7th!
My favorite? I haven’t decided yet - but with 8 weeks till baby number 2 arrives, I better figure it out fast!

I’m moving at more than 550 miles per hour. According to the very cool touch-screen display integrated into the seat in front off me, I’m also 32,913 feet above the California-Nevada border. You see, I’m writing this blog post while en route to a law enforcement technology conference and trade show I’m attending for work.
I used to be a big fan of business travel—I’ve long had the goal of seeing all 50 states by the time I’m 50, and business travel is one of the ways I’ve been able to see so much of this great country.
But this is my first business trip since Finn Gunn was born and tonight will be the very first night that I will not kiss him goodnight. The mere contemplation of that reality is giving me a lump in my throat the size of a cantaloupe. Read the rest of this entry »
I’d say my pregnancy cravings have gone from mild to manic, with my current craving being jars of Kosher Dill pickles. At one sitting. (I know, how much of a stereotype am I?!)
MicheleZ from CafeMom feels the same while expecting her twins and writes about it in her new post My Latest Pregnancy Craving. We’re thrilled that along with the lemonade she’s found our Organic Lovies by MiYim. What’s not to love?!
There’s been a hot topic on one of my mommy message boards lately, and it has many of up in arms. Is it Cash for Clunkers or Universal Health Care? No. Circumcision? Nope, not even close. The subject is ear piercing, and I admit it was me who started the whole debate.
It started innocently enough, me wondering when I should have my daughter’s ears pierced. She’s 2 1/2 and I’ve been debating whether to have them done now, when there’s less of a chance she’ll remember any trauma, or to wait until she is old enough to ask for earrings. And even better, take care of them herself. I was seven when I first had mine pierced, double-teamed at a teen jewelry store at the mall. When those closed up, we were off to the doctor for attempt number two. My Mom had hers done the old-fashioned way: needle and potato, but not until she’d moved out of the house. Grandma still clings to her clip-on earrings (which seems even more painful than the temporary gun).
Many people hopped on the debate; some, for cultural reasons, had their daughters’ ears pierced as early as they could. Others thought it was barbaric: why would you want to poke holes in your innocent child? A third party agreed with me on the wait and see approach.
So I ask, dear readers, what do you think? Have you had your daughter’s ears pierced? If so, at what age, and where? What was your experience when you had yours done? I’ll be very interested in seeing the answers; hopefully they’ll help me make my own decision before my little one goes to college.
It’s four o’clock in the afternoon and I just woke up. No, I’m not nursing an epic hangover—I’m smart.
I can tell you without equivocation that one of the most commonly discussed topics among new parents is sleep. Yes, we talk about poop, and yes, we talk about those little behavioral quirks.
“He gets that from you,” I say, when he makes his upside-down face and starts to cry.
“He gets that from you,” she replies, when he poops his pants.
Ha, ha, ha… pretty funny, honey. I love you though!
But every day—I’m not kidding, EVERY SINGLE DAY—we talk about sleep. More accurately, we talk about the lack of it. Example:
“Morning honey.”
“Morning.”
“How did you sleep?”
“Horrible. You?”
“Same.”

For many parents (and babies), swaddling is a wonderful way to comfort baby by giving them that sense of comfort and security they found a short time ago in the womb. But as baby grows, swaddling becomes more difficult as he or she becomes increasingly active. For our daughter, we ended swaddling around 3 months, but I know many parents that have continued it for several months more.
With all of the fear around SIDS, using standard blankets for such little ones in the crib is a scary idea. A great solution? The sleep sack! After starting with the best swaddling blankets we’ve found, the Aden+Anais swaddling blankets , a great sleep sack to transition to is the Cloud B Pointelle Lullabag. With a wrap-around zipper for easy diaper change access, the Lullabag is incredibly soft, washes well and most importantly keeps baby warm without fear of it covering their face during the night!
The Cloud B Lightweight Lullabag is a great option during the warmer months when you don’t need as much coverage, but still want to keep baby snuggled up. The newest addition, and our latest obsession at WhatEveryBabyNeeds.com, is the fabulous new Sleeping Bag from Aden+Anais. With adorable prints and the same cotton muslin we love in their swaddling blankets, it makes for an easy transition!
With my second one on the way, I know we’re at least set for the swaddling blankets and sleep sacks. Now to try to get ready for sleepless nights!
